About Samskaras
Samskaras are the sacred rites of passage in Hinduism that mark the important stages of a person’s life, from conception to death. The word “Samskara” means “making perfect” or “refining” - these rituals purify and sanctify the individual at each critical juncture of life.
The ancient texts describe up to sixteen Samskaras (Shodasha Samskaras), though the number and details vary across different traditions. These include pre-birth rituals, childhood ceremonies, educational initiations, marriage rites, and funeral ceremonies. Each Samskara is designed to invoke divine blessings and create positive impressions (samskaras) on the mind and soul.
The following audio recordings guide you through the proper performance of select Samskaras.
